Join us at our next meeting September 10, 2015 to find out the added Fun and Benefits the Moose Legion offers. Sign before October 1, 2015 and join us October 8-10, 2015 for our All-State Celebration and Conferral in Virginia Beach. We have moved our Lodge Moose Legion meeting time to 7:30 pm to allow for extra activities starting around 6:30 pm (Food and Fun). Refreshments will be served for those attending the meetings. Our Chapter Members are always welcome at our meetings. Our next Lodge Moose Legion meeting will be held on September 15, 2015. Fun starts at 6:30 pm with a short meeting at 7:00 pm. Secretary 07/01/2015 Moose Legion News Moose Legion News Wednesday, July 1, 2015 Great news Brother Moose Legionnaires, The Board of Directors of Hampton Roads Moose Legion 199 have waived the $10.00 application fee until April 30, 2016. Sign up new members for only $15.00 until the end of this Moose Year. Remember, new members must attend a conferral before they are enrolled into the Moose Legion. At our next meeting, July 9, 2015, we will again have food, beverage and activities. Hope to see everyone there. How many times have you been bothered to show your Membership Card? Why do I have to show it?” You looked at it the other day.” Again?” You’re just picking on me.” How many times have you heard this? Have you ever wondered why we need to show our Membership Card? By showing your card, you maintain our rights as a private organization and can literally save the Lodge from financial ruin. Do you complain when the receptionist at the doctor’s office asks to see your insurance card? How about Sam’s Club, BJ’s or COSTCO? Does it make you see red when you have to show your ID card to save an extra 10% at the store? By showing your Moose card, you are saving a lot more than you think. Allowing unqualified non-members to make purchases can expose our lodge to a court determination that we are a public, not private accommodation. This jeopardizes our right to select our own members, organize our own activities, and establish our own rules and regulations. Allowing non-members to make purchases could make our Lodge a place of public accommodation, subjecting it to payment of taxes imposed on those of public facilities. Non-members using the lodge facilities or participating in activities’ could increase our insurance cost. Allowing non-members to make purchases jeopardizes the status of the Lodge’s liquor license as a private club. When you show your card, you are exempting the Lodge from paying royalty fees when playing music. When you show your card, it says that you are a member of a fraternity, it shows you are a person who enjoys the company of others and a person who stands ready to help a fellow human in need whenever you can. It says that the holder of this membership card is someone who holds a special place in their heart for children in need.
